Tangier · a garden over the strait
Behind an unassuming façade, the loveliest garden in Tangier.
An 1860s mansion and its Mediterranean garden, between the port and the Grand Socco — a large pool, shaded terraces, and the Strait of Gibraltar for a horizon. Seven rooms and three suites, each with its own character.
The house
An 1860s villa that reveals itself
like a secret garden.
Behind an unassuming façade on the rue de la Plage, at the entrance to the Tangier medina, hides one of the loveliest private gardens in the city. Built in the 1860s, Mimi Calpe was the summer retreat of an influential Tangier family — a century-old garden, a large swimming pool, shaded terraces, and the Bay of Tangier opening between two continents.
Seven rooms and three suites, each dressed in antique furniture and a character all its own, are spread across the main house, the garden house and the retreats of the park — all the way to the cabin perched in the trees. Pool, traditional hammam, table d’hôtes: here, it is the garden that sets the tempo.

Rooms & suites
Seven rooms, three suites,
each with its own character.
From the suites of the main house to the cabin in the trees, ten ways of living in the garden — antique furniture, freestanding bathtubs, private terraces.
Table & services
The life of the house, to the garden's rhythm.
Generous cooking, Moroccan and international, prepared at home with fresh produce from the market — lunch and dinner to order. Every morning a full breakfast is served in the garden; by day, you linger in the shade of the terraces with a book or a glass of mint tea.
In the evening the table is set in the garden —
under the trees, by the murmur of the fountains.
Breakfast, every morning
The hammam, an age-old ritual
Above, the bay; below, the living water.
The garden unfolds its shaded terraces and lounge corners all the way down to the large swimming pool, facing the Bay of Tangier and the Strait of Gibraltar. Sheltered by the foliage, a traditional hammam keeps an age-old ritual alive; massages and treatments on request.

The collection
Chez Sophie, houses to live in.
In 1995, Sophie Raynal, then an architecture student at the Beaux-Arts de Paris, fell in love with Morocco during a trip to Marrakech. She undertook the renovation of several houses in Marrakech, Oualidia and Tangier, guided by a demand for authenticity — a true aesthetic vision.
Sophie is no longer with us, but she passed on to her family and her team the values born of her sensitivity and her humanism. All of this, you will feel during your visit.
